Interview Questions & Answers
Tell us something about yourself.
"My name is Sweety Singh, and I am from India. I have a strong interest in leadership and college activities. I love to travel and explore new places. Today, I am here as LUSA Secretary, a journey I began on October 31, 2023."
What is LUSA?
"LUSA is the Lincoln University Student Association. It is elected annually by the student body and focuses on all issues related to self-governance at the university and life itself. From organizing events, student clubs, and different activities to promoting an atmosphere of inclusion."
What motivated you to join LUSA?
"The first thing is the desire to make positive changes. I really want to contribute to the college community and make a difference in students' lives because I know it's very hard to be in a different country where nobody’s with you; you’re all alone. You come here and struggle with everything by yourself. So, yeah, my first goal is to make a positive impact so I can help others.
"Second, having a passion for leadership roles and activities—that’s what inspired and motivated me the most to run for this role."
What qualities does one need to be a LUSA Representative? What was your winning strategy?
"I believe leadership is the most important skill. The ability to inspire and motivate others, make decisions, and take initiatives in driving positive change are very important qualities you need for this role."
In reflecting on her personal growth, Sweety said, "I believe I have always had leadership traits. I think I can connect with people easily; that’s how I can inspire and motivate others. And, I love to take on responsibilities and accepting challenges. I always believe in taking initiative and am passionate about driving positive changes."
Sweety also emphasized how communication skills and problem-solving are vital, along with empathy, which she considers crucial for understanding and catering to students.
What was it like to running the campaign for LUSA?
"When I was running the campaign, there were a lot of things going on. I still remember, it was a hectic period, as I was preoccupied with my coursework. Which is why the very first thing to consider is planning and strategizing. One should have a good strategy for how to involve students as well as how to make your voice heard."
"You must build a good team with like-minded attributes. LUSA is composed of a group of four team members: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
"You need to engage with people; it’s very important to make connections and talk to people. We also participated in debates and made connections."
Will you tell us about your team’s achievements and recent work for LUSA?
"Lincoln University Cultural Day is coming up, so we are working on a cultural day event. We are also working on industrial visits. It would be great if we could organize industrial visits. These activities reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing student life at Lincoln University."
What is your ideal university culture?
"For me, the ideal university culture should be diverse, equal, and inclusive. A culture where people from other countries come together, share their opinions, and celebrate every festival together by respecting each other’s cultures and beliefs."
What advice would you give to aspiring LUSA candidates?
"Research the position, duties, and responsibilities. Build a strong team. Engage with students. Promote your campaign. Stay positive and professional. Finally, follow the rules and guidelines."
